How it Started
Posted by Alice Pascoe on
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to look at my website, I thought I'd have a little section to introduce myself!
My name's Alice and I'm the creator of SimplyWishes and maker of all items in my shop!
I've always been creative - it runs in the family! Some of my earliest memories of craft are entering the handicraft competitions at Yealmpton country show - my favourite being a lego structure of a pirate ship that won first prize!
I studied Creative Arts - Art and Textiles at university and was then lucky enough to get a job in a haberdashery in Bath once I graduated.
Simplywishes sprang from when I finished uni and suddenly had the time to make things for myself, however very quickly I'd made all the little homewares and wanted to keep making them from beautiful bright fabrics but I don't exactly need ten crochet hook rolls! I started making gifts for friends and family and then somebody mentioned Etsy to me so I gave it go!
My advice to anyone starting an etsy shop would be to not give up your day job! It was 3 1/2 months before I got my first sale and I got my first taste of a happy dance and the joy of a sale!
One of my earliest reviews was "Fantastic seller, so quick for delivery, arrived before expected date :) Great product, as described. My crochet hooks sit lovely in the slots, very nice to have somewhere to keep them instead of finding them stuffed into balls of wool :) p.s. great pattern, pleased to see a crochet hook roll which doesn't have flowers or granny patterns on :)"
The last comment really stuck with me and has made me always be on the hunt for different and interesting fabrics but sometimes there are beautiful flower fabrics too =)
I had to put my shop on holiday mode in 2017 for nearly a year when I went travelling for a very long honeymoon! And since the n my husband and I have lived in several different cities before settling down in Teignmouth, south Devon
Over the years I've expanded my range of products and they nearly all stem from making something for myself, testing and using it myself so I can experiment with the best design before making more for the shop!
I'm hoping this year to launch a wholesale line of my most popular items and sell in local gifts shops.
